What is natural gas?
Natural gas is a colourless and odourless fuel source made mostly of methane and commonly used for household cooking and heating. It forms over many years from the remains of plants and animals built up in thick layers deep on the ocean floor.
Where does Kleenheat supply natural gas?
WA’s natural gas network is made up of more than 14,000km of underground pipelines supplying approximately 750,000 homes across Western Australia. It spans the Perth metropolitan area – plus north to Geraldton and south to Busselton – and continues to grow in line with local demand.
While maintenance of WA’s natural gas network is managed by ATCO Gas Australia, retailers like Kleenheat take care of the natural gas supply and account management for local homes and businesses.
Each premises connected to the natural gas network has a gas meter located near the boundary line of the property, which records how much gas is used. Similar to a water meter, analog natural gas meters must be manually inspected by the network operator to record usage and assist with accurate billing.
