Five National Parks to wander into in Western Australia
Western Australia has a lot of beauty to offer if you can take the time to venture off the main roads and highways to experience it.
Why not dust off the camping gear and explore some of the more remote areas, as well as our National Parks.
Keep in mind if you are spending time in regional and remote areas, you need to be prepared, even more so than usual, with the right supplies and equipment.
Here are five Western Australian National Parks worth the hours on the road.
D’Entrecasteaux National Park | 315km south of Perth and 30kms from Northcliffe
South of Pemberton and Northcliffe, this National Park stretches from Northcliffe to the coast where you’ll find the aptly named Windy Harbour.
You’ll also find pristine white beaches, the Yeagarup sand dunes, stunning coastal cliffs, tall karri forests, and plenty of fishing opportunities.

Cape Le Grand National Park | 630km south-east of Perth and 55kms from Esperance
Features massive granite and rugged coastal peaks and its white sandy beaches are regarded as some of the best in Australia.
The parks heathlands are home to unique wildlife including the small, mouse-sized pygmy possum, western grey kangaroos, and wildflowers.

Fitzgerald River National Park | 420kms south of Perth
Midway between Albany and Esperance on the southern coast, this national park is one of the largest national parks in Australia and home to almost 20% of WA’s flora species.
The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is also one of the most diverse botanical regions in the world with more than 1800 species of plants.
This park combines stunningly clean beaches, white squeaky sand, ample fishing and bush walks, and 4WD trails for an ideal place to base yourself for a while.

Karijini National Park | 1385kms north-east of Perth and 80kms north-east of Tom Price
WA’s second-largest park has some of the most beautiful waterfalls, sparkling rock pools, and spectacular gorges.

The unspoiled, amazing scenery boasts huge termite mounds, native vegetation, red kangaroos, and a variety of birds.

Mount Augustus National Park | 985kms north-east Perth
Rising 715m above the surrounding alluvial plain, Mount Augustus is an inselberg, meaning ‘island mountain’.
There are rocky creeks, gorges, and open plains supporting a variety of vegetation and wildlife.

It can get busy on the road and if you’re travelling long distances, be wary of keeping alert and take breaks often.
