Carbon Offset Explainer

What is carbon offsetting?

Carbon offset units are used to compensate for the residual emissions an organisation produces to help reduce its carbon footprint where it may not be able to reduce its direct emissions.

Offset units are generated by projects that reduce, remove or capture emissions from the atmosphere, such as reforestation or renewable energy.

By purchasing carbon offsets, organisations support projects that help reduce emissions contributing to climate change.

Kleenheat has worked with Climate Active to achieve certification for our residential natural gas product, for those customers who have opted in.

How much does it cost?

Carbon offset contributions are based on your household consumption of natural gas.

Your units of consumption will be multiplied by a unit price, which is set by Kleenheat and based on the cost of acquiring carbon offset units.

Can I change my mind?

Yes, you can choose to opt-in or out of your carbon offset contribution at any time by calling 13 21 80 or online via My Account.

Opting out works immediately and will be applied to the entire billing period, so you won’t be charged a carbon offset contribution on your next bill.
